Environmental Education and Sustainable Development: actions in the daily life of the Environmental Verification Schools (EVAs) of Elia and Suzana, Cacheu region in Guinea-Bissau Abrir no Google T

Abstract

Environmental Education in the everyday school environment plays a fundamental role as a driving tool for comprehensive community participation, with a view to identifying and implementing solutions aimed at mitigating local environmental challenges. The aim of this work is to analyze and discuss Environmental Education actions in Environmental Verification Schools (EVAs) in Guinea-Bissau. The methodological approach adopted in this work, which is based on qualitative research, is based on a combination of a case study and a literature review. In addition, data was collected by means of a questionnaire in order to diagnose and analyze the knowledge, perception and opinion of the teachers at the schools represented by Elia and Suzana on environmental issues. Among the practical actions developed by the EVAs, we highlight initiatives such as replanting mangroves and cibe palm trees, building improved stoves, implementing solar salt extraction, as well as organizing visits and creating educational reserves. Such undertakings highlight the importance of thorough planning, to be discussed on an ongoing basis at school, in close collaboration with teachers and the local community. Through this process, these educational institutions play an important role in raising community awareness of environmental issues and encouraging the conservation of local biodiversity. As a result, reflections on the environment and the sustainability of the community itself are promoted, contributing to a more harmonious and balanced future.
