Objective. To define a minimal increment for each domain of the SF-36 related to fibromyalgia patients that can express a significant clinical improvement desired for this patients. Method. The SF36 was analyzed for each domain by 4 physical therapists, and each professional, based upon his/her experience with fibromyalgia patients, suggested a minimal variation index for each SF-36 domain, always taking in account the meaning of each question. In all domain the physical therapists were required to suppose what positive variation they would aim after the treatment. We calculated mean, standard deviation and agreement among physical therapists, and we presented a minimal incrementscore necessary to allow a clinical improvement in that domain. Results. The minimal increment-score were as follow: Physical function 15; Role physical 25; Pain 10; General health 15; Vitality 15; Social function 12,5; Role emotional 33,3; Mental health 12. Conclusion. The minimal positive variation expected by the physical therapists associated to clinical improvement was 10 (pain) and the major incrementscore was 33.3 (role emotional), all in agreement with mean variation published in similar studies.
