Evaluation and stimulation of neuropsychomotor development in institutionalized infants

Objective. Evaluate the effects of a program of neuropsychomotor stimulation in the development of institutionalized infants, in the posture, of the oculomotor coordination, language and social. Method. Case study conducted with 5 infants, aged between 11 and 22 months, which were evaluated using the Brunet-Lézine Scale (BLS) and participated in an program of neuropsychomotor stimulation individual, who totaled 20 sessions. The infants were reassessed by means of BLS and the results compared. Results. In the first assessment had 4 infants behind in global development (lower profile and much lower), and in one case the social area was in this condition (lower profile). Oculomotor coordination in the four cases presented profile “much lower”. At the last evaluation all areas of development have evolved, with the exception of the social field in which the delay (Low Profile) persisted in one case. The global development has profiles of normal in all infants. Statistical significance was obtained for the ratios of development of language and oculomotor coordination and the ratios of global development. Conclusion. With the program of stimulation of the infants had changes in the development neuropsychomotor, being significant in the areas of oculomotor coordination, language and global development.
