Abstract

Patients with acute seizure, including status epilepticus, can prove difficult to treat and first line treatment generally involves a benzodiazepine drug. The most widely used drugs in the treatment of patients with acute seizures are diazepam, lorazepam and midazolam. We review the efficacy and safety of the ways of midazolam administration. Intranasal and buccal midazolam could be an alternative to rectal and intravenous diazepam.
