Abstract

The spasticity is a common clinical manifestation resultant of the upper motor neuron injury in the central nervous system. It is a condition that affects adults and children with a great variety of acute and chronic pathologies being the predominant characteristic of diverse conditions. One of the main problems of the illnesses that attend spastic paraparesis refers to the progressive compromise of the walk that can lead to the individuals to remain confined to the wheelchair. The hydrotherapy, for its properties of support, assistance and resistance, constitute an alternative approach for the rehabilitation of neurological patients. This article has the objective to discuss the effects of the hydrotherapy to minimize the functional deficiencies and incapacities decurrently of the spasticity in patients with spastic paraparesis.
