Abstract

This essay aims to outline the agonistic and tragic character of the symbol. For this purpose, it is intended to grope, making use of Creuzer and Bachofen, reaching its peak in Warburg, as the symbol, as a provisional film that is formed from the violent clash between man and the world, makes the vital tension and the terribleness of Life is a way of living more, that is, a form of orientation in the cosmos. Crystallizing in maximum tension the historical rudiment of a form of life, more than synthetically resolving and appeasing its immanent conflict, the symbol reveals itself to be an agonistic force, a will to power that stimulates or declines the life that comes into contact with it.
