Abstract

This work discusses the Escola de Arte de Beuron (Germany), which represented modernity in religious art between the 19th and 20th centuries, and was represented in Brazil. Beuron's Art sought to rescue Ancient Art as an expedient for pure religious art. In Brazil, he landed with Res tauração Religiosa (1895) and in São Paulo (1914) with the Belgian artist Adelbert Gresnicht. We believe that Gresnicht's production from São Paulo assumed an authorial character, distanced itself from the Germanic production from Beuro by its master Peter Lenz and that there are open questions regarding the team of artists who worked on this work.
