Abstract

In this article I present an overview of ceramics produced in the African territory, in the main territories from which these enslaved peoples came to Brazil, considering that in the diaspora they brought with them the know-how of ceramics. We will look at some of the ceramics produced by contemporary African artists. After all, black ceramics in Brazil are linked to the African continent. There is, however, more research in Brazil on indigenous ancestry in ceramics. There is also great reverence for the ceramic tradition brought to Brazil by Japanese immigration. Getting to know a little of the ancestral African characteristics in Brazilian ceramics is a way of finding roots and possible encounters that may arise between African ceramic art and Brazilian ceramic production in contemporary art.
