Abstract

This article proposes to analyze the concept of Nachleben (posthumous life) of Aby Warburg and the way he can enrich historiographical practice, offering a way to to think a heterochronic approach to history. Through a transversal cut in the vast Warburguian work, I will analyze, In the first part, the way in which this concept impacts the interpretation of the Italian Renaissance by highlighting the “reciprocal exchanges” between past and present and the ethical implications of its relationship with antiquity. In the second part, I deal with the effects of “posthumous life” in the historiographical operation, above all what it means to incorporate heterochrony as a starting point of historical understanding and how this ultimately unfolds in a writing that operates on the key of the montage.
