Abstract

The article focuses on the formal and thematic ten- sions of the first series of airmail stamps in Brazil (1929) as an
instrument of national identity affirmation in the geopolitical context of the Interwar period. We seek to highlight a theoreti- cal corpus for the methodological approach of the stamp inaugu- rated by Aby Warburg in Art History through transdisciplinary
dialogues. He saw the interwoven relationship between the ma- terial support and the images carried by it as a metaphor for the
transits of theoretical and artistic models and their expressive values. Due to the cultural complexity of this subject, the leit- motiv of the article is the conquest of the sky as topical, pierced of ancient survivals between the monstra and the astra, exalted
by stamps whose emissions dialogue with the field of Political
