Reflections on Environmental Education and Ecosocialism in post-pandemic Brazil

Abstract

Aggravated by the pandemic brought by Covid-19, problems such as hunger, unemployment, poverty, deforestation and pollution can be understood as signs of a necessary and urgent change in the pedagogical bases of Brazilian education and facing the transfative potential of environmental education in the construction of a socioeconomic development forms, cultural and political organization more related with the ecological cycles and dynamics of nature that, for centuries, have been reduced to commodities and resources to obtain profits through consumerism. From a critical-reflective bibliographical review, new perspectives are proposed on how environmental education can bring solutions to the structural problems that afflict Brazil, leading to a new praxis engaged with citizenship and ecology.
