Abstract

Objective. To verify the effect of Functional Bandage (BF) associated or not to the functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) and vibration Therapy (TV) in dorsiflexion and unloading weight in post stroke patients. Method. This study was performed with 7 individuals, chronic post-stroke, with spastic pattern equinus-varus ankle, both sexes, aged between 40 and 70 years. Were conducted three protocols: application of BF in the tibialis anterior muscle; Association of BF and FES; BF associated with TV. The interventions were performed twice a week, one month in each step with an interval of two weeks between them. Individuals were assessed and reassessed by baropodometry and electromyography of tibialis anterior muscle. The data that was not normal were submitted to Wilcoxon and Kruskal-Wallis tests. Those that were normal were anlysed with t test and Anova One-way. Values of p≤0.05 were considered significant. Result. There was no difference for RMSn values and baropodometry intra and inter-groups. There was an increased signal amplitude EMGn (Pmáxn) and reduced median frequency for BF protocol (p=0.03), no difference was found in the others. Conclusion. The BF applied alone was able to increase muscle activity. However, when combined with other therapies their effects were not evidenced.
