Introduction. The progressive decline of cognitive functions not only causes memory loss and motor impairment, but also negatively affects the quality of life of the elderly, making them unable to make important decisions in their daily activities. Objective. To identify the different eating patterns of elderly people with cognitive disorders. Method. The search for articles was carried out in the data sources Scielo, Lilacs, Pubmed, Scopus, Bireme and Web Of Science, there was no restriction on location, language and period. For the selection of studies, the combination based on the Medical Subject Heading Terms was used (MeSH). Four studies were included in the research that scored ≥6 points according to the protocol for qualitative scoring proposed by Pithon et al. Results. The included articles found a statistical correlation that healthy dietary changes in midlife are associated with a reduced risk of dementia. Investments in public health initiatives to promote healthier eating, in addition to improving other lifestyle factors (e.g., increasing physical activity), can have long-term benefits for preventing conditions that are more prevalent with aging. Conclusion. A high quality diet, along with a diversified vegetable intake, is associated with a lower risk of cognitive decline in the elderly.
