The Postgraduate Program in History of Art at UNIFESP, in operation since 2014, has been acquiring visibility, representativeness, important academic-scientific production indexes and notoriety in the context of historical-artistic studies. It has become a comprehensive, multidisciplinary and innovative program. As part of this significant growth process, Imagem: Revista de História da Arte was created by its students and approved by the Collegiate of the Postgraduate Program in History of Art in 2019. The establishment of an international academic journal aims to provide visibility to, enhance the extent of and promote dialogue between the variety of intellectual production emerging from research developed in Postgraduate Programs in History of Art and with other universities both in Brazil and abroad.

For the Editorial Boards, National and International Scientific Committee composition, names of recognized relevance were brought together, giving Image academic importance, scientific rigor, and fruitful national and international dialogue. In addition, the debate and exchange of themes, events, researches and materials surrounding History of Art is a pillar of the journal's activities and objectives, always favoring transdisciplinarity and internationalization. Innovation, originality, relevance, visibility, scope, critical vision and scientific rigor are some of the guiding qualities of Image. The journal aims to become a reference both nationally and in the horizontalized international field of research in History of Art and related areas, as an originator and promoter of content in various media and platforms of scientific access, going beyond the university's borders to promote social insertion.
