This article analyzes the struggles between different political groups of
the Regency period and the representations of Evaristo Ferreira da Veiga
in some of the newspapers published in Rio de Janeiro that sought to
challenge the hegemonic position maintained by the moderate liberal wing
to which he belonged. During the period under analysis, the moderados
occupied the majority of power positions, something that did not put them
apart from the attacks both from their exaltados and caramurus rivals,
and from individuals claiming to belong to the same group despite not
agreeing with all their acts.
