François-Xavier Guerra´s work is seen as a mark in the renovation of Latin
American Political Historiography. The article aims to evaluate to what
point this renewal was achieved, exploring the possibilities and limits of his
investigation. Thus, I discuss basically Guerra´s two major books: México: del
Antiguo Régimen a la Revolución (1985) and Modernidad e independencias:
ensayos sobre las revoluciones hispánicas (1992). I indicate the relationship
between them, arguing that their realization is mainly theoretical.
