EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABILITY: APPROXIMATIONS BETWEEN ECOLOGICAL LITERACY AND CRITICAL ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

Abstract

This paper seeks to establish connections between Ecological Literacy (EL) and Critical Environmental Education (CEE). Through a literature review, it explores how EL, which emphasizes understanding ecological systems and the ability to think ecologically, intertwines with CEE, which aims to empower individuals to question and transform existing environmental norms. The results indicate that while EL provides fundamental knowledge and environmental awareness, CEE offers the means to apply this knowledge in a socially responsible manner. It is concluded that integrating these aspects can contribute to a more engaged approach in solving problems caused to/in the environment.
