Abstract

The teaching of Environmental Education - EA is guaranteed by law through article 225, item VI of the Federal Constitution and other infraconstitutional laws, including in State and Municipal scope, however what is perceived in practice is a reality diverse from the present in all extensive legislation that regulates the teaching of EE in Brazil. The present study searches through a Bibliographic Review that covers all the publications found in the platforms researched until the month of June 2019 to understand what step Environmental Education is going on for indigenous peoples in Brazil, considering that these traditional peoples do not have historically an ecological behavior, but have an intrinsic relation with the environment. The results and discussion were presented in three categories: 1) Research Objectives addressed 2) Applied Methodologies 3) Results found. It is suggested that future work be undertaken to thoroughly investigate the main environmental problems present in each locality, and how EA can help solve them by promoting improvements in the lives of these communities through a process of empowerment of students and education professionals to act as modifiers of social reality.
