Use of geoprocessing in the study of the conservation status of urban trees: Case Study of the Alto Maé B neighborhood - City of Maputo

Abstract

This research aims to survey the state of conservation of urban afforestation in the Alto Maé B neighborhood, to find ways of reversing the scenario of manipulation of Maputo's tree park and raising awareness among residents in environmental conservation, in the arboreal aspect of the City. The work is based on bibliographical research, direct observation, and the cartographic method. The result points to a total of 962 complaints about places along the avenues, namely: Yellow Acacias, Red Acacias, Apple Trees, Almond Trees, Palm Trees, Empty Spaces (dead or cut trees and areas covered by concrete). It is recommended to replace dead trees and raise awareness among residents about caring for plants; the application of existing legislation, avoiding replacements of acacias used in the initial decoration of avenues or streets.
