Environmental awareness through the educational tool SOS Macaco-prego-galego: report of a practical application

Abstract

This experience report aims to describe the environmental education actions carried out at the State Elementary and Middle Senador Rui Carneiro School to raise awareness among students about the conservation of the Capuchin Monkey (Sapajus flavius) populations, which are at risk of extinction using the educational instrument SOS Macaco-Prego-Galego. This tool simulates a fragment of the Atlantic Forest, based on the Private Natural Heritage Reserve (RPPN) Engenho Gargau, located in Santa Rita city, on the northeast of Paraiba state, where a population of Capuchin Monkeys lives. In this scene, the main threats to the population of the species Sapajus flavius, as well as curiosities and information about its characteristics, diet, and other habits instrument are presented in a playful and dynamic way. The application results showed that students learned significantly about the Sapajus flavius species and its threats.
