Objective. The aim was to verify the effectiveness of the exercises with Swiss ball previously applied to radiotherapy for breast cancer. Method. This is a randomized, controlled clinical study, parallel and blind. Participated in this study thirteen women (45-67 years) who made the first surgery for invasive unilateral breast carcinoma and who had an indication for radiotherapy. They were divided into a control group that received only a leaflet about radiotherapy (CG=7) and a treatment group that received a leaflet about the treatment with radiotherapy plus exercises on the Swiss ball (TG=6). The instruments used for assessment were questionnaires FACT-B (Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy for Breast Cancer), DASH scale (dysfunction of the arm, shoulder and hand) and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Patients received 20 sessions of physical therapy exercises free assets using the Swiss ball before radiotherapy everyday for 30 minutes. Statistical analysis was performed using paired t test and unpaired. Results. Regarding the BDI within the groups showed difference (p=0.02) and intergroup GT (p=0.01). In FACT-B, there showed difference in intergroup GT (p=0.05). DASH in both groups had quantitative improvement in the final evaluation, although not significant. Conclusion. It was concluded that performing exercises with Swiss ball prior radiotherapy promoted psychological benefits and quality of life.
