Resumo

A trajetória de Elizabeth Eastlake como escritora foi estabelecida a partir de tipologias textuais consideradas menos eruditas, caso dos textos para revistas literárias, catálogos de galerias, prefácios, manuais técnicos e, em grande medida, a tradução de textos. A escrita anônima também foi um recurso largamente usado pela autora em grande parte de sua carreira. Essas foram algumas das estratégias de Elizabeth para acessar o universo erudito de seu tempo. Interessa a esta pesquisa as correspondências que tratam da relação da autora com a cultura germânica, suas viagens à Alemanha e seu estabelecimento como crítica de arte a partir da tradução de textos. Elizabeth Eastlake foi uma erudita atuante no contexto europeu, mas ainda é pouco conhecida e estudada no Brasil. O percurso dessa escritora pode contribuir com a ampliação de perspectivas sobre a profissionalização das mulheres na literatura e na escrita sobre arte do final dos oitocentos.
