IS THERE A GRETA THUNBERG IN BRAZIL? YOUNG REPRESENTATIVES IN THE CLIMATE FIGHT

Abstract

With the latest version of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a series of demonstrations broke out in different parts of the world, with a strong prevalence of media focusing on youth protagonism in the first world. In the meantime, the young Swedish woman Greta Thunberg has become an example of youth leadership against Climate Change (CM). Without discrediting the essential European youth uprising, this manuscript problematizes this centrality in the media arena, since the third world is the global dimension most affected by MC. In order to change the Eurocentric focus of the demonstrations, in a second moment, Brazilian leaders are highlighted, highlighting the indigenous activism of Txai Suruí.
