Abstract

This paper describes the conception, implementation, and one year of birdwatching activities in four urban parks in Santa Bárbara d’Oeste, SP. The description was based on qualitative and quantitative data. The Aves de Santa Bárbara Project conducted 15 monitored events from September 2020 to September 2021 and received a total of 206 subscriptions (average: 13.7/event). Attendees’ ages varied from 7 to 66 years old, and education levels and occupations varied as well. In 33 hours of observations, 102 bird species were registered. The analysis of attendees’ motivations and verbal reports showed that the project was successful as it provided an important tool for environmental education, generation of scientific data, leisure, and ecological tourism.
