Housing and artisanal fishing in the Campos basin: data from the new Pescarte Census

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the housing conditions of fishermen in the Campos Basin - RJ, pointing out the following: These municipalities are located in the north of Rio de Janeiro and the lakes region, immersed in a private economy that has important impacts on artisanal fishing. This article is the result of research funded by the Pescarte Environmental Education Project (PEA), which is a mitigation measure required by the Federal Environmental Licensing, conducted by IBAMA. The methodology used to prepare this work was based on the analysis of quantitative data from the new Pescarte Census (2023). As a result, we can observe a certain vulnerability in housing conditions and access to equipment and public policies. In addition, we point to the sense of belonging developed by these fishermen, in the link between their homes and the perception of living in a fishing community.
