Abstract

In order to help tackle the challenge, which is to deconstruct the image of a poor biodiversity and inhospitable ecosystem, which, for a long time, was attributed to Caatinga, the proposal to build didactic resources was born in the context of the project “Learning about the value of Caatinga biodiversity and its ecosystem services in school education ”, which was financed by the Pernambuco Research Support Foundation - FACEPE (APQ - 0177-2.05 / 18). The topics covered in this project broadly covered the Caatinga's biodiversity, specifically flora, mycota, fauna, plant-animal relations and its ecosystem services. This proposal aimed to produce educational kits aimed at the scientific dissemination of knowledge related to the value of the Caatinga's biodiversity and its ecosystem services, targeting students from public elementary and high schools. It was developed within the scope of the Environmental Education for Sustainability discipline, of the Postgraduate Program in Environmental Science and Technology (PPGCTA) and being an active methodology strategy. In this sense, recreational resources were developed, such as board games, musical games, booklet, didactic sequence and gamification trail that support the teacher of basic education in addressing the Caatinga's biodiversity and its ecosystem services. Along the way of carrying out this proposal, we joined several creative and working forces from the University of Pernambuco (UPE), undergraduate students in the Biological Sciences Degree at the Petrolina Campus, master students and professors from the Postgraduate Program in Environmental Science and Technology (PPGCTA). This union brought immense wealth to the products developed and the certainty that our contribution will be effective in transforming visions and values ​​about the Caatinga's biodiversity. The works are systematized in the form of articles, and published in this special issue of the Revista Brasileira de Educação Ambiental.
