The present article, guided by the political languages methodology, in the sense of J. Pocock and Q. Skinner’s
contextualist perspective, aims to investigate the political discourse formulated by the journal O Americano in the
year of 1831. Focused in the topic of federalism and the question of Brazil’s inclusion as integral part of American
political identity, this work analyzes the development and the unfolding of the journal’s political language in the
face of “liberais moderados e exaltados” political projects broadcasted inside Rio de Janeiro Court press.
