Abstract

This work studies the gestation movement and the agency of the Clube da Lavoura e do Comércio. Throughout the year of 1871 this association, which had some of the most important farmers and merchants of the Brazilian Empire, fought against the promulgation of the Free Womb Law manifesting its antagonism with a Protest and a petition sent to the Brazilian Parliament.
