About the Journal

What is Prometeica? Prometeica is an academic journal created to divulge critical articles that explore the limits of the relations between Philosophy and Science. It was created by Argentine and Brazilian researchers linked to the University of Mar Del Plata and the Federal University of São Paulo, in digital format, open access, and peer-reviewed. The term humanistic is polysemic, and thus perceived here as the interest in apprehending the world from a humanistic perspective in which the very man who aims the world comprehension is also the object of the same reflection. For this reason, Prometeica is a journal of Philosophy and the Sciences. Although the well-known desire of Philosophy to give answers that help to understand the world, philosophical reflection can improve its own goals when it is presented in a dialogue with other sciences so that knowledge can develop in interdisciplinary practice with Physics, Biology, Mathematics, Neuroscience, Engineering, and Computing. This viewpoint can enhance the world’s comprehension by adding a diachronic approach, considering historical studies in a broad sense, which surpasses the old Geisteswissenschaften, an area that has received different definitions according to the specifications of research plans and programs. Besides being an academic publication that complies with international standards, Prometeica aims to be an open space for interdisciplinary dialogue, debate, and dissemination of the work of different specialists in the world. That is why works in multiple languages are accepted: Spanish, Portuguese, and English.

What is the aim of publishing Prometeica? Prometeica is a multidisciplinary journal dedicated to analyzing, reflecting on and understanding the intersection between philosophy and science as the basis and advancement of scientific knowledge. This includes interdisciplinary aspects within the area of Philosophy, such as the Philosophy of Art, Religions, Literature, Logic and Theories of Knowledge, History of Philosophy as well as the dialogue between Science Teaching, Epistemology, Philosophy of Science and History of Science. This characteristic emerges from the fact that we assume sciences as the result of human production, socially and historically determined. In the same way as the conception of the nature of science has changed over time (making certain knowledge sometimes associated with a scientific context, sometimes with a religious context), the elements related to its production and dissemination were also transformed into a function of changes in social structures and relationships. We consider that social conditions and sociocultural values are fundamental for the construction and application of scientific knowledge. Prometeica publishes articles, essays, dossiers and reviews.

What is the relevance and uniqueness of Prometeica? Prometeica seeks to be a revolutionary journal in order to emphasize the importance of the relationship between different areas of knowledge through multidisciplinary dialogue. Because it has open access and is free, it values the production of knowledge generated by funding research with public funds in Brazilian and foreign universities. It was these characteristics that allowed the inclusion of Prometeica in the Web Of Science in 2015 and in Scopus in 2019, given its relevance in the area of Humanities and Arts. The articles published show the importance of humanist thinking for the training of scientists, university professors and undergraduate and graduate students in areas of knowledge related to Higher and Basic Education, including the development and application of teaching and research methodologies.
