Tourism, nature and safety: case study on tourism safety in Brotas (SP, Brazil)

Abstract

Due to the scenario of gradual return of tourist activity to normality, media materials indicate a possible repressed demand in search of activities related to nature, enabling the return of activities such as ecotourism and adventure tourism, which are activities linked to the escape from the urban routine and connection with nature, being characterized by the search of outdoor activities, to observe the fauna and the flora, or to carry out activities with some type of risk. In this way, and with a view to popularizing adventure tourism activities, the main objective of this study is ‘to verify the importance of the rules that determine safety in adventure tourism and ecotourism in the municipality of Brotas’. Once the main objective of the study has been defined, the following problem is adopted: What is the importance of the rules that determine the safety of adventure tourism and ecotourism in the municipality of Brotas? As already presented through the objective and problem of study, this qualitative study adopts the municipality of Brotas (São Paulo, Brazil) as case study, where it sought to understand the tourist activities in this locality, as well as the security measures adopted. Interviews with tourism professionals from Brotas, and subsequent contente analyzes based on Bardin (2011), showed the importance of norms for local tourism prioritizing the safety of the visitor, the safety also of professionals working in the área, region and, finally, the good reputation of the municipality studied in this paper.
