Abstract

Inventory protocol and evaluation of Pedological Interest Places (PIP) for a “pedotourism”

Soil is an essential part of life on Earth. Geosciences, especially Pedology, play a fundamental role in balancing this biotic-abiotic relationship. In this sense, pedotourism is proposed as a tourist segment through the inventory and evaluation of "Pedological Interest Places" (PIP) as eco- and geotourism products. The methods used involved a literature review; development of a qualitative and quantitative inventory form for fieldwork application; insertion of PIP data into the Geossit, Terra Mineira and other online databases; pedotouristic quantification; and calculation of pedotouristic potential. The result is presented as a new tourist segment, pedotourism, and as a theoretical methodological basis for the conceptualization, description and quantification of geosites of pedological interest (pedosites). Together, they constitute pedodiversity and contribute to the pedoconservation of the pedological heritage in parks, geoparks and other protected areas.
