Abstract

The perception of stress, well-being and quality of the work environment is interdependent and influenced by individual, economic and cultural factors. In this study, the objective was to comparatively analyze the perception of stress, well-being and work environment in Southeast and northern regions of Brazil. 235 workers participated, 65.5% women and 34.5% men, without children (59.1%), with higher education (43%), working in services (42.1%) on a CLT basis (60.4%). Three online instruments were used to assess the perception of stress, well-being and incivility at work. Analyzes were performed using the t test for independent samples. No significant differences were observed in the perception of stress, well-being and work environment between the regions. However, the Southeast region presented higher averages in the perception of stress (Southeast = 1.39; North = 1.27) and incivility at work (Southeast = 0.89; North = 0.67) and a lower perception of well-being (3.49) compared to the North region (3.64). In some specific items, the Southeast had significantly higher means than the North (p ≤ 0.05). The data suggest that the pace of life, work and income opportunities, higher risk of unemployment and other socioeconomic factors that differ in these regions may be affecting the perception and mental health of these workers.
