Abstract

The topic proposed here goes beyond the limits of an essay because it focuses on a writer as erudite and encyclopedic as Borges. But it is not an exception. In fact, any proposal about his work usually faces the same risk. With this idea in mind, my essay tries to give a summary of the meeting points that Borges maintains with some representatives of the Enlightenment, such as Berkeley, Hume, Jonathan Swift, Kant and Leibniz. In this sense, my approach outlines an epistemological course by delving into theories of knowledge that, refuting metaphysical and theological postulates, install human life, as José Isaacson would say, on the endless slope of the question.
