Revisão de escopo: as implicações do diagnóstico tardio do TEA em mulheres

Resumo

Introdução. Dentre os distúrbios de neurodesenvolvimento, o Transtorno de Espectro Autista (TEA) é um dos que apresenta a maior razão entre homens e mulheres, uma vez que a prevalência nas regiões estudadas é 3,8 vezes maior para meninos do que para meninas. O TEA é dividido em três níveis, classificados de acordo com a necessidade de suporte do indivíduo, nos quais predominam características como dificuldade de expressão, baixa capacidade de contato visual, comportamentos repetitivos e maior sensibilidade ao ambiente. Objetivo. Verificar os efeitos do diagnóstico tardio do TEA em mulheres, bem como as principais contribuições científicas para reverter esse quadro. Método. A partir do protocolo PRISMA, foi realizada uma revisão de escopo de trabalhos científicos presentes nas plataformas PubMed, Scielo, BVS, Cochrane e Capes. Resultados. O diagnóstico tardio do TEA apresenta implicações e riscos, incluindo diferenças características, influência de fatores sexuais, depressão e comportamentos de automutilação na adolescência. As dificuldades em distinguir TEA de outros transtornos são destacadas, enfatizando a necessidade de aumentar a conscientização e compreensão do autismo. Conclusão. Diversos fatores explicam o alto índice de diagnósticos tardios em mulheres com TEA, principalmente a camuflagem dos sinais e sintomas. Dessa forma, é perceptível as diversas consequências que um subdiagnóstico no espectro causa, especialmente no que diz respeito a doenças psicológicas, sendo considerada, muitas vezes, uma experiência traumatizante para esse grupo de mulheres.
