A brief history of the Ptolemy's Tetrabiblos Arabic translations

Abstract
This paper presents the first translations of Ptolemy´s astrological treatise, the Tetrabiblos, which was translated in one of the most important translation episodes in history, the translation movement in Baghdad in the 8th–10th centuries. I intend to show the role of translation in the circulation of science and that this kind of ancient text is a historical construct. It is not just a Ptolemy's text, it is a textual community composed by all its rewritings through several languages and cultures, and the Tetrabiblos, as any text, grows in each reading. It is important to bring the scientific translation to the debates in Translation Studies, because it goes through the same linguistic and rhetoric process as any other human activity. Finally, but not less important, this is an opportunity to remember the Arabic roots of the western science.
