Abstract

The article aims to broaden the knowledge about tourism in the municipality of Ananindeua, located in the Metropolitan Region of Belém (PA, Brazil), analyze the potential for ecotourism in the region and the importance of involving the local community in projects that encourage sustainable development; The history of the municipality and the legal steps necessary for the regulation and implementation of ecological projects will be presented. The study was conducted through the collection of data on official government pages, articles, field research conducted on Igarapé Grande Island and residents' testimonies, in which it was possible to note the lack of tourism projects in the islands. As part of the study, some steps are required for the implementation of projects that will responsibly explore the insular area of ​​Ananindeua, as well as the importance of the participation of public agencies so that projects are successful and beneficial to the local community, providing sustainable economic development of region.

Doutora em Desenvolvimento Socioambiental pelo NAEA/UFPA. Mestre em Gestão e Desenvolvimento Regional pela UNITAU/SP, com Especialização em Sistemas de Informações Gerenciais pela UFPA e Gestão Pública pelo CESUPA/PA. Graduada em CIÊNCIAS CONTÁBEIS pela Universidade da Amazônia (1998). Atualmente é Professora do Mestrado de Gestão Pública do NAEA/UFPA. Pesquisadora do CNPQ/UFPA e NECMA/USP.
