Considering public debates on historical/historiographical themes, we think through the issue of intellectual commitment from a historical, theoretical, and conceptual perspective. In this movement, we also discuss how such an issue is imposed on the historian, highlighting the uses, the risks of abuse, the boundaries, and the possibilities of adopting this attitude. In our perspective, the present analysis can contribute for professionals who work in the field of history, whether in research and / or in teaching, to make their probable involvement in these discussions more fertile and relevant, thus moving away from inappropriate (or negligent) practices that can cause damage not only to other historians but also to those who consume historical content and knowledge.
