Keywords:
West Africa, Missionaries, Travels' narrativesAbstract
Missionary action in West Africa during the colonial period has been the subject of investigation and scrutiny in recent African/Africanist historiography, particularly aiming to problematize the forms of intercultural contact, and notably, the role of African intermediaries in processes of conversion and Christian education. Concerning the Niger River region (present-day Nigeria), figures such as Reverend Thomas Adesina Jacobson Ogunbiyi, in the service of the Church Missionary Society (C.M.S.), left significant documentation regarding the "contact zones" (an expression of M.L. Pratt) resulting from colonialism, mainly through travel accounts.
