Abstract

From the perspective of second-degree artistic practices, or hyperartistic practices, as characterized by Gérard Genette (2010) in the context of his study of literary hypertextuality, a succinct reading of the work of Tao Sigulda, Latvian artist based in Brazil, is presented. The aim is to explore some of the main lines of his pictorial production, which fundamentally emerges from the creative reinterpretation of the artistic imaginary of the 20th century, as well as from the dialogue with the visual production of his contemporaries. Exemplifies this approach Still life (1991), composition precisely oriented by one of the types of hypertext operations identified by Gérard Genette, transposition, whose scope covers a complex referential, theoretical and aesthetic dynamic, which proves to be representative of Sigulda’s visual poetics. This work, finally, provides a reflection on the different discourses and representations of an unprecedented visual sign established with the advent of nuclear technology and the inauguration of the so-called “Atomic Age”.
