Nitric Oxide (NO) is produced in the atmosphere through the rays and considered toxic when exhaled by the smoke of the cigarette. It is also, a neurotransmitter in the brain human and an important therapeutic agent in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (UTIN). In 1987 it was used for the first time in the medicine and today it plays important role in the clinic of some neonatal pathologies. The objective of this study is, through bibliographical revision, to present the NO importance as neurotransmitter and therapeutic agent in the UTIN.
