Techniques Combinations of Physical Therapy In the Treatment of Patients With Multiple Sclerosis:

Objective. Evaluate the effectiveness of physical therapy on the quality of life (QOL), fatigue, functional independence in performing activities of daily living (ADL), range of motion (ROM), muscle strength, balance and gait in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). Method. Quantitative, descriptive, longitudinal study of four female individuals, aged 33 to 53 years, carried out in homes once a week for a period of 60 minutes, totaling 30 sessions for each patient. The Functional Assessment of Multiple Sclerosis quality of life scale (FAMS), Modified Fatigue Impact Scale (MFIS), Barthel Index, Goniometry, Manual Muscle Testing (MMT), Equiscale, and the Kinematic Gait Evaluation were applied in three evaluations (sessions 0, 15 and 30). The Friedman’s and Dunn’s tests through the software InStat Graphpad were used for statistical analysis. Results. There was improvement in ROM, muscle strength, balance and gait after the thirtieth session. No significant results were found in the fifteenth session evaluation, though. Conclusion. The proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation techniques and Frenkel exercises are effective in the treatment of MS patients, requiring a longer duration of action for best results.
