Introduction. Neuroscience is one of the world’s most growing areas. However there are few studies that assess their impact in different countries. Objective. Compare the academic production of neuroscience in Brazil with other Latin American countries over the past 16 years. Method. A data survey in SCImago Journal and Country Rank was conducted to analyze the scientific production of 20 Latin America countries between 1996 and 2011. Results. Brazil showed the highest annual production in neuroscience with 627±276 articles (p<0.01 compared to all other Latin American countries), followed by Mexico (193±73 articles) and Argentina (137±46 articles). Conclusion. Brazil, Mexico and Argentina, the three most important Latin American countries of economy and politics are also the three greatest Latin American producers of neuroscience in the last 16 years.
