Abstract

Objective. The objective of this study was to report the case of a patient with Machado-Joseph disease undergoing therapy Mirror (TM) in the lower limbs. Method. This is a case report of a male patient, 56 years old, diagnosed with Machado-Joseph disease. The instruments used for evaluation were the equilibrium Berg Scale (BBS), walk test 5 meters (C5M) test up and down stairs (TU) and (TDS), Time test up-and-Go (TUG) and surface electromyography during voluntary isometric contraction (IVC) bilaterally and simultaneously the retofemural muscles (RF) and tibialis anterior (TA). For intervention applied to TM associated with exercises in the lower limbs. Results. Therre was a increase in the BBS (p=0.05), reducing the time for C5M test, TU, TDS, TUG, and increased electromyographic activity for RF and TA muscles. Conclusion. We concluded that the TM can contribute to functional improvement and increase in electromyographic activity in this patient.
