Abstract

Objective. Analyze, preliminarily, using standardized clinical protocols, the oral sensory-motor aspects of adult individuals affected by SARS-CoV-2 after the incubation period, based on a comparative study with a control group. Method. This was a cross-sectional observational study. A comparison was made of orofacial myofunctional aspects related to the appearance, mobility and functionality of the stomatognathic system, dysphagia, oral stereognosis and olfaction of people who had Covid-19 (Research Group - RG) and people who did not (Control Group - CG), using standardized clinical protocols. Results. in the items of appearance, mobility and functionality of the orofacial myofunctional system, the participants performed satisfactorily, considering normal data, with the CG performing better. In the stereognosis test, CG and PG showed a level of correct answers greater than 50% and when compared, PG showed better performance. GC and GP both scored less than 50% in the assessment of the olfactory system and when compared, GP performed worse. Conclusion. To date, few studies have provided information on orofacial myofunctional manifestations following Covid-19 infection. The contribution is to propose a scientifically proven study to obtain data to prove whether there are significant manifestations that bring about orofacial sensory-motor alterations in individuals who have been diagnosed with Covid-19, after their clinical recovery.
