Objective. To conduct a scoping review of the exposure factors of Oppositional Defiant Disorder, investigating risk factors and protective factors in a global context. Method. The Population, Context, Concept (PCC) methodology was used to guide the formulation of the research question, underpinning the search for articles in the PubMed, Embase, PsycNet, and Scopus databases. Articles were selected using Boolean operators combined with exclusion and inclusion criteria and were subsequently forwarded for the extraction process. Results. After the selection process, 13 articles were selected according to the inclusion criteria presented in the methodology. The articles address characteristics that have favorable impacts on the development of Oppositional Defiant Disorder, such as familial, social, and individual factors. Conclusion. Several factors, such as familial, social, and situational, have reported impacts on the development and maintenance of Oppositional Defiant Disorder, requiring joint and dynamic analysis to understand and monitor individuals with the disorder. Further studies are necessary to explore other influences and increase the knowledge base on the subject.
