Abstract

Introduction. Stroke is a common and severe neurological dysfunction with a significant impact on society. With the increasing life expectancy, the prevalence of individuals with sequelae has risen, restricting their ability to perform Activities of Daily Living and impairing social participation. Rehabilitation aims to improve physical, functional, and mental capacity, facilitating the individual's reintegration into society, with immediate and continuous access being crucial to minimize post-stroke sequelae. Objective. To characterize access to outpatient rehabilitation in the first month post-hospital discharge from a Stroke Unit in the healthcare network of Joinville and the surrounding region, identifying barriers related to access. Method. An observational and cross-sectional study with patients discharged from a public hospital Stroke Unit, where participants completed an electronic questionnaire with objective and descriptive questions about access to rehabilitation 30 days after hospital discharge. Results. 58 participants who were referred to rehabilitation at the time of hospital discharge were included. Access to Physical Therapy was higher compared to Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy. Among the main barriers to rehabilitation access, the unavailability of slots stands out. Conclusions. Discharge planning and integration of the multidisciplinary team in care are extremely relevant. Although access to Physical Therapy was relatively better, there are significant deficiencies in access to Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy. It is necessary to expand specialized services and improve access to rehabilitation to ensure the continuity of post-stroke care.
