Factors associated with the nutritional status of patients with Parkinson's Disease at a referral hospital in Pará

Introduction. Parkinson's Disease (PD) is considered the second most prevalent neurodegenerative disease, it presents with motor and non-motor symptoms, including dysphagia, which compromises swallowing, leading to inadequate hydration and nutrition. Objective. To verify the association and correlation of factors associated with the nutritional status of patients with PD in a reference hospital in Pará. Method. Quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional study. Patients diagnosed with PD of both sexes, aged ≥18 years, and receiving care at the outpatient clinic of the Ophir Loyola hospital in Belém-PA were included, and patients diagnosed with other neurological pathologies were excluded. The sample was calculated through statistical calculation, data was collected through an electronic form on Google Forms, and statistical analysis was carried out using the Pearson Correlation test and G Test. Results. The research was carried out with 60 participants, and a significant association was found between dysphagia and the disability stages of the disease (p=0.0027), and a correlation between dysphagia and age (P=0.0005), the majority of patients had a nutritional status of eutrophy (71.7%). Conclusion. It was identified that dysphagia has a high relationship with PD, and the higher the disability stage of the disease, the greater the risk of dysphagia, just as the risk of dysphagia is correlated with age, and the higher the age, the higher the risk. the risk of dysphagia. However, no significant associations of these variables with nutritional status were found.
