Cultural collectives promoting young protagonists: from school to community

Abstract

Introduction. Cultural collectives are social spaces of welcome and security in which young people have, through interaction with each other, inserted in the promotion of art and culture, the possibility of exercising their individualities and developing themselves. Objective. To understand the process and implications of the formation and functioning of a cultural collective located on the outskirts of the city of São Paulo, as well as its consequences for development in confronting social inequality. Method. Through qualitative research, data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews with 7 young people participating in a cultural collective. The interviews were subjected to thematic content analysis. Results. The results reveal the significant contribution of the school to the institution of the cultural collective. For these young people, the cultural collective is an important space for socialization, development, and promotion them as protagonists, contributing to social transformation through poetry and music. Furthermore, it is of great importance for the community in which it is located, given the scarcity of cultural and social activities on offer. Conclusions. Cultural collectives can be important paths for the development of these young people by providing the possibility of overcoming and transforming their realities through art. In this sense, it is important to carry out research that allows the observation and monitoring of these groups, which can broaden understandings about the dynamics of relationships and the conditions for establishing and sustaining collectives committed to transforming society.
