Introduction. Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is a peripheral polyneuropathy, which is classified as a rare but potentially serious neuromuscular disease that affects the peripheral nerves and the individual's immune system. Characterized by an autoimmune response, GBS results in progressive damage to myelin, the substance that protects nerve fibers. Objective. To conduct an analysis of the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on the number of cases of GBS. Method. A cross-sectional study was conducted on GBS hospitalizations in the state of Mato Grosso from 2012 to 2023. Data were obtained from the database of the State Department of Health of Mato Grosso, treated, and dichotomized using Microsoft Excel. Results. A total of 443 GBS cases were recorded during the analyzed period. The standout years were 2018 and 2022, with 64 and 51 registered cases, respectively. In 2018, it was observed that out of the 64 hospitalized patients, only 16 required ICU admission. Furthermore, it was noticed that during the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2022), there was an increase of 12 cases in the general population compared to the pre-pandemic period (2017-2019). Conclusion: COVID-19 acts as a triggering factor for GBS, enabling the increase in the number of cases during the pandemic period.
