Introduction. Stroke is a condition that can result in neurological damage and lead to functional disability. Dysphagia is an alteration in the biomechanics of swallowing and can often be present in individuals affected by stroke. Intravenous thrombolysis is the most indicated and effective treatment when administered at the right time, restoring blood flow in the affected area.Objective. To compare the incidence and severity of dysphagia in thrombolysed and non-thrombolised patients, as well as the need for an alternative feeding route. Method. Retrospective, quantitative, comparative analysis of 331 medical records of patients in the acute phase of stroke, where 98 underwent thrombolytic treatment (G1) and 233 did not undergo treatment (G2). Data collected from electronic medical records were: age, gender, having or not had thrombolysis, reason for not having thrombolysis, degree of dysphagia, level of diet and previous stroke. Descriptive and comparative analyzes were performed using Pearson's chi-square test. Results. The incidence of dysphagia in both groups was proportional (G1=48% and G2=54.5%), however, the severity of dysphagia in G2 (48.8% severe dysphagia) and the need for an alternative route were highlighted. of food (82.2%) compared to G1. Conclusion. Individuals without thrombolysis have a greater tendency to develop dysphagia in the acute phase of stroke, as well as a worse degree of severity compared to patients who underwent thrombolytic therapy.
